Thanksgiving Break is officially over and we now begin the countdown to Winter Break. FOUR WEEKS, people! Yep! FOUR WEEKS that you can visit the Skinner Library and check out some of the amazing books in our collection!
Recently someone mentioned it would be wonderful if the library had the How To Train Your Dragon series ... well, actually, WE DO! As a matter of fact we probably have MANY of the titles you "wish" we have. :) If you are wondering whether or not a book is on our shelves, you can check using Destiny Discover (the link is found on our library main page) or by asking Ms. Lewallen.
BTW, we know many students have been concerned that certain titles are not available for check-out via the district's OverDrive system. We spoke with the main office and learned that titles are typically released according to the School Library Journal's (SLJ) recommended age ranking. If a novel is recommended for 10th grade and higher, the book is only released for students in 10th-12th grade. Upon our request, the district looked at other reviews for the popular novel The Hate U Give and found various recommendations listing the book as 8th grade and above. As such they are in the process of altering the novel's check-out policy. THANK YOU, DPS!
They are here!!!!! Our start-of-the-school-year book order has arrived! I'm just needing to process them and then, hopefully by this Friday, they will all be ready for check out.
We are SOOOO excited!! The Skinner Library's request for a DPS BOOST Grant was approved!! This means we get to purchase a whole bunch of books (print and eBooks) that OUR students can use during their classes and lessons in Social Studies!! We can't wait to show you these amazing resources!!!!
It's FALL!! WOW!!! Who can believe that?
Well, Sven is pretty happy that fall is finally here! In fact, he says if you send him a picture of YOU reading in a fall environment (something like sitting in front of a pile of fall; in a pumpkin patch; by a night time fire) and send it to him care of Ms. Lewallen (firstname.lastname@example.org), you can earn a free book!!
Did you stop by the library today to practice your skill talking like a pirate??? SVEN actually hung out on the sea all day and had a blast! Hopefully, though, he didn't get too much of a liking for the life of a pirate!
The first Skinner BEYOND Day for the 2018-2019 school year has been scheduled! Mark your calendars for Tuesday, the 30th of October! WE ARE CELEBRATING STRANGER THINGS!!!
There WILL be a permission slip for this event, so be sure to listen for the announcement stating the slips are ready to be picked up in the library!
For those who have joined the Skinner Library Squad, our first meeting is Monday, September 17th in the library! Sven and Ms. Lewallen CAN'T wait to see everyone! We will hit the ground running, so be prepared for lots of fun!!
Our September Fireside Chats w/ Sven is available for viewing on the "book trailers and recommendations" page! This month Sven and Ms. Lewallen cover books with the theme of FOOTBALL!!!
The library is hosting a contest for ALL Learning Families! All your LF has to do is create an original READ poster! Yep! A READ poster! The Learning Family with the most creative/engaging poster will win a COOKIE/DRINK party!!!
